After a 14-year-old girl’s body was discovered along the side of a road last week, her mother and Tampa police detectives are asking the public for help. Nilexia B. Alexander was recognized by detectives as the teen. She was found shot to death on Floribraska Avenue North on Friday morning. She was thought to be a Temple Terrace fugitive. Alexander’s mother spoke out from Tampa Police Department headquarters on Tuesday, asking with the public for information that would lead to the arrest of her daughter’s killer.

“I want whoever killed my baby to face the consequences. My 14-year-old daughter deserves justice “she stated “Please, please, The bereaved mother expressed her hope that no other family would have to go through what she is. “You shouldn’t have to bury your kid, you shouldn’t have to bury your child,” she added, tears streaming down her face as she held up a photo of her daughter. “She was only 14 years old. A 14-year-old girl was slain for no apparent reason.”

Shots were fired in the 100 block of Floribraska Avenue North at 3:15 a.m. Friday, according to police. Officers reported finding a “young female by the road” when they arrived. Neighbors reported hearing up to eight gunshots and a car speeding away. Alexander was known to spend time in the Jackson Heights area when she left her Temple Terrace home, according to investigators. “No one deserves to die at the hands of someone,” said Sandra Bentil, an assistant Tampa Police spokesperson. “We’d like to see this victim get some justice.” The family asked the public to a balloon release to commemorate Alexander’s life on Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. at the 100 block of Floribraska Avenue North, where she was slain.
