Its been all over the news, and once again the Gov. of Florida is in it! Gov. Ron Desantis has upset many over the Disney new law. Governor Ron DeSantis has signed a law that will end Walt Disney World’s self-governing status in the state. The decision is perceived as retaliation for Disney’s opposition to the state’s “Don’t Say Gay” legislation. I remember once the news hit the public, many were outraged that the governor would do such a thing. I mean we should not be surprised after seeing so much strife with the Desantis and the public over the years. At this point, I guess we can say that Gov. Desantis has decided that he does not care about winning a presidential seat, more less continue to serve as Florida’s Governor. The actions of the governor could lead to his destruction. As far as Disney, its legal status in the state effectively allowed it to function as its own municipal government. It gave it the power to tax, develop roads, regulate utilities, and run its own fire service. The law in Florida will defund Disney’s Reedy Creek Improvement District, as well as a number of others. The bill, on the other hand, allows for the re-establishment of districts in the future.

The Governor was firm when he spoke about this bill. I do not think that he knew that this would get the backlash that it has gotten thus far. Although many were against this bill, there were many that were for it. Its no secret that Desantis has his fans, and they still rally in support over what the Governor feels is best for his state. I know that this year in November, many are set out to join together in support and some not in support, of the Governor who has made clear that what he says is what he means, regardless of who likes it or not. Gov. DeSantis accused Disney of lying about the controversial policy, which prohibits many primary school classrooms from discussing sexual orientation, during a bill signing ceremony on Friday. “You’re a corporation situated in Burbank, California, and you’re going to use your economic might to target my state’s parents,” he stated. “We see that as a provocation, and we’re going to respond accordingly.” A request for comment from the BBC was not immediately returned by Disney. The district will be disbanded on June 1, 2023, as a result of the transfer.
